Registering Your Hangin’ Tree Cowdog

The Hangin’ Tree Cowdog Registry and the American Cowdog Association have merged to form the Hangin’ Tree Cowdog Association, Inc (HTCA). The HTCA was formed to protect and promote the Hangin’ Tree Cowdog. Owners and breeders of Hangin’ Tree Cowdogs are encouraged to join and register their dogs with the association. Only Hangin’ Tree Cowdogs can be registered with the HTCA.

To be registered as a Hangin’ Tree Cowdog, your dog must:

  • Be from registered Hangin’ Tree Cowdog stock or a registered HTCA litter.
  • Have a short, slick hair coat that is no longer than one and half (1 ½) inches in length.
  • Have a docked tail.

If your dog fits these criteria, you will need the approval of at least one HTCA board member before your dog can receive permanent registration papers. A board member will need to see your dog work cattle. Your dog-working demonstration can be either in person or on video. The dog can be working with or without another dog. During the demonstration the board member will be watching to see if your dog will head and heel. The demonstration must clearly show that the dog is biting the cattle on both ends.
